WinningTheWeb.com has reviewed Wordpress Link Cloak, and it’s glowingly positive remarks can be read here.

On my end, I just installed the plugin, entered in the keywords I wanted to convert into affiliate links and wala.
This plugin is amazing because you can use any URL directory and file structure that you want. It’s highly customizable and you can easily limit the number of keywords that are converted to affiliate links on the page.

Cloaked File or Cloaked Directory? April 6th, 2008
Posted in Frequently Asked Questions | No Comments »

One of the simplest yet most ingenious features of Wordpress Link Cloak is that you can choose to cloak all your links to a directory struture (www.blog.com/affiliate) or a file structure (www.blog.com/affiliate.html). Now the real question is, which one is better? Okay, I lied, that’s not a real question as there is no real answer. The format you used really depends on one thing, what structure you use on your Wordpress blog.

Say for example your blog posts all end in .html then I’d recommend doing the same with your cloaked links. If you’re using the permalinks feature to have blog posts such as www.blog.com/blog-post-title-here then I’d suggest making the Wordpress Link Cloak options set to a similar structure.

The aim of the game is to make URL’s not scream “I MAKE MONEY FROM THIS”. If a URL is different to the structure of all your other URL’s then they begin to get suspicious (that’s bad).

What are the limitations of Wordpress Link Cloak? March 30th, 2008
Posted in Frequently Asked Questions | No Comments »

No piece of software is perfect. There are a number of known limitations which will hopefully be fixed in future versions.

  1. Problems can arise if there are multiple blogs installed on a domain all using Wordpress Link Cloak. This issue comes from how the software handles the htaccess in the public_html directory file
  2. If you’re using permalinks with the same structure as your cloaked links issues will arise if the cloaked page has the same name as a post or page. (For example, if you have a post titled “Azoogle” and then a cloaked page named “azoogle” a conflict will arise)
What does “Migrate All Posts by Replacement” do? March 29th, 2008
Posted in Frequently Asked Questions | No Comments »

Migrate All Posts by Replacement is an ingenious feature to help users migrate from their old system of cloaking affiliate links.

Say, for example, you used to manually link the keywords “Azoogle Ads” to /go/azoogle.php
That could very well be a lot of links that aren’t using Wordpress Link Cloak to disguise your affiliate urls. What “Migrate All Posts by Replacement” does is go through all your old posts and finds the keywords “Azoogle Ads” and replaces them even if they’ve already been previously linked.

Of course, this system isn’t perfect, and we recommend that you backup your database beforehand, and then browse through your site to verify everything is working fine.

Will Wordpress Link Cloak hurt your rankings in search engines? March 28th, 2008
Posted in Frequently Asked Questions | No Comments »

Link cloaking can have negative connotations, and how Google describes cloaking (“Cloaking refers to the practice of presenting different content or URLs to users and search engines”) is not what Wordpress Link Cloak does, therefore it will have no effect on your search engine rankings. Your URL’s are simply rewritten and redirected - nothing shady here!
